    El artículo plantea cómo el crecimiento del sistema de regulación y control de la investigación biomédica puede acabar volviéndose contra su razón de ser. Para abordar la necesidad de un cambio, hace un recorrido por las relaciones entre práctica médica e investigación clínica desde las épocas dominadas por el principio de beneficencia (hasta el siglo XX), la autonomía, la no-maleficencia y la justicia (a partir de 1970) donde comienza la era de las regulaciones. La regulación se ha mostrado necesaria pero no suficiente y plantea hoy la necesidad de una cierta recuperación de la ética de las virtudes (hábitos y estilos de vida) y de los deberes. Hoy la lógica de la investigación y la práctica clínica se están aproximando y estamos en un momento crucial que hace necesario distinguir la ética de la investigación de las regulaciones.

    This article questions how the growth of the system of regulation and control of biomedical research may end up turning against its raison d’être. To address the need for change, the author takes us through the relationship between medical practice and clinical research from the days dominated by the principle of beneficence (up to the twentieth century), autonomy, non-maleficence and justice (since 1970) when the period of regulation began. Regulations have proved to be necessary but not sufficient, and they now pose the need for a recovery of an ethics of virtue (habits and lifestyles) and duties. Today the logic of research and clinical practice are approaching each other and we are at a turning point which makes it necessary to distinguish research ethics regulations.
