Resumen de Indicaciones e interpretación diagnóstica de las pruebas funcionales hipofisarias

  Introducción Las pruebas funcionales hipofisarias nos permitirán conocer el funcionamiento de los ejes endocrinos. Estas se realizarán como segundo paso una vez realizadas las determinaciones basales de las hormonas hipofisarias y de los órganos diana a estudio y esta información no será suficiente para llegar a un diagnóstico.

  Indicaciones Las pruebas funcionales serán de estímulo en el caso de sospechar hipofunción y de supresión si se sospecha hipersecreción hormonal.

  Conclusión Su uso es imprescindible en la evaluación del eje hipotálamo-hipófiso-suprarrenal, para el diagnóstico del hipercortisolismo y de la insuficiencia suprarrenal y en la evaluación del eje somatotropo, para el diagnóstico de acromegalia y del déficit de hormona de crecimiento.

  Introduction Pituitary function tests allow us to know the correct performance of endocrinological axis. These tests will be performed as a secondary step if a previous basal determination of pituitary hormones and the corresponding study of their targeted glands had been done but information derived from the same is not enough to reach a diagnosis.

  Indication These function tests will be of stimulus-type in case there is a possible hypopituitarism or suppression-type in case of possible hormonal hypersecretion. Conclusion. The use of pituitary function test is mandatory for the evaluation of the hypothalamic-piptuitary-adrenal gland axis, for the diagnosis of hypercortisolism and adrenal insufficiency and for the evaluation of the somatotroph axis, for the diagnosis of acromegaly and Growth Hormone deficiency.
