Jesuitas de principio a fin. Algunas consideraciones historiográficas sobre la Compañía de Jesús. (A resultas del Quinto Centenario del nacimiento del cofundador Alfonso Salmerón, 1515)

    Estamos acostumbrados a contemplar y estudiar a la Compañía de Jesús desde perspectivas distorsionadas, especialmente desde el gran trauma que supuso su primera expulsión y posterior extinción en 1767-1773. Pero el contra-jesuitismo no fue una moda del siglo XVIII, como tampoco logró difuminarse en los siglos contemporáneos. En primer término, se intenta vincular el agrio combate entre la orden de los Jesuitas y el Estado regalista borbónico en la larga historia de la Compañía desde su constitución en 1540. Posteriormente se hace un repaso de los puntos de interés y facetas en los que se ha centrado la historiografía jesuítica desde el siglo XIX hasta el XXI; para, por último, proponer algunas direcciones que deben ser reforzadas en la investigación futura, que ya no parece estar ligada a los profesos de la Compañía en exclusividad. Todo para explicar por qué es pertinente dedicarle importantes esfuerzos al estudio de la figura del cofundador Alfonso Salmerón.

    We are accustomed to contemplate and study at the Society of Jesus from distorted perspectives, especially from the great trauma of his first expulsion and subsequent extinction in 1767-1773. But the counter-jesuitism was not a fashion of the Eighteenth Century, nor managed to fade in contemporary centuries. First at all, we’ll try to link the bitter fight between the order of the Jesuits and the Bourbon Regalist State in the long history of the Company since its inception in 1540. Subsequently, we’ll do a review of the points of interest and facets in which it is done centered Jesuit historiography since the Nineteenth Century to the XXIth; to, finally, propose some directions that should be strengthened in future researches, which no longer seems to be linked to the professed of the Company exclusively. All to explain why it is appropriate to devote major efforts to the study of the figure of the founder Alfonso Salmeron.
