Valor de la gustometría en el control del paciente diabético

    Se ha estudiado la sensibilidad gustativa de un grupo de 100 diabéticos y de 76 sujetos sanos con los métodos de electrogustometría y quimiogustometría. Los diabéticos presentaron valores medios de la electrogustometría más elevados y estadísticamente significativos que los controles. Asimismo, en el grupo de diabéticos se hallaron diferencias significativas entre los pacientes con menos y más de 50 años, con y sin vasculopatía, fumadores y no fumadores, y con hemoglobina glucosilada (Hb A1) normal o elevada. No se observaron comportamientos distintos al considerar el tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad y el tipo de tratamiento farmacológico. La relación observada entre hipogeusia y tasa de Hb A1 hace presuponer que la gustometría, en particular la electrogustrometría, puede ser empleada como un parámetro en el control metabólico del diabético.

    Gustometry tests were carried out in a group of 100 diabetics and in 76 healthy controls in order to assess taste impairment in diabeted mellitus. Mean values of the electrogustometry test were significantly higher in diabetic patients as compared with controls. Significant differences were also observed between diabetics under or over the age of 50, wíth and without vasculopathy as a complication of the disease, smokers and nonsmokers, and with normal or abnormal blood levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb A1). When the clinical evolution of the disease or the type of pharmacological treatment was considered no significant differences were found. The relationship between hypogeusia and rate of Hb A1 supports that gustometry, particularly the electrogustometry test, may be consider a useful parameter for assessing metabolic control in the diabetic patient.
