Un examen de la semejanza entre la Santísima Trinidad, en cuanto comunión de las Personas divinas, y la relación entre los esposos - a pesar de los límites de esta analogía - puede ser útil para la mejor comprensión del plan de Dios para con la familia. De la misma manera, las relaciones matrimmoniales de amor pueden ser descritas en términos de teología trinitaria, porque no solamente los seres humanos en cuanto a individuos, sino también las parejas en cuanto tales han sido creadas a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Estos dos acercamientos complementarios ayudan a encontrar respuestas mejores a los desafíos de la pastoral familiar. El obrar común de la pareja, la mutua adhesión y la autosuperación recíproca por medio del amor fructífero constituyen las indicaciones más claras de que Dios uno y trino es el arquetipo y la finalidad del matrimonio. Teológicamente hablando, las familias pueden ser consideradas "redimidas" y "sanantes", puesto que participan de la obra divina de la redención.

An exploration of the analogy between tha Holy Trinity as tha community of Divine Persons and tha relationship between the spouses, inherently ordained to bring forth offspring - the limitations of any analogy notwithstanding - can be useful for a deeper understanding of God´s plan for the family. Thus the spousal bond of love can be described in Trinitarian theological terms, in the sense that, not only individual human beings, but also the couple as such are created in the image and likeness of God. These two complementary approaches to the creation of humanity, as individuals and as couples-families, can help in finding better answers for family-related challenges in pastoral ministry. The couple´s common action, their mutual attachment and their mutual self-transcendence through fruitful love are the clearest indications that the Triune God is both the "archetype" and the goal of marriage. Theologically speaking, the family is a "redeemed"as well as a "redeeming"and healing community of persons.
