    El lujo de las insignias portuguesas del siglo xviii y de las primeras décadas de 1800 es el resultado de la abundancia de pedrerías venidas de Brasil. No sólo son los diamantes, sino también los cristales de roca, los topacios y los granates que vienen en gran cantidad permitiendo la ejecución de piezas de joyería de las órdenes de Cristo, de Santiago y de Avis. La evolución de las piezas, los diferentes tipos y el uso social de estos objetos se acercó a lo largo de un período comprendido entre mediados del siglo xviii y las primeras décadas del siglo xix

    The luxury of Portuguese insignia of the eighteenth century and the first decades of the xix century owes much to the abundance of gems coming from Brazil. Not only diamonds, but also rock crystal, topaz and garnets are brought over in great number, allowing the execution of jewelry pieces of the orders of Christ, Santiago and Avis.
