Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, la relación entre España y los Estados Unidos, carente de vigor desde 1898, se intensificó de manera significativa, caracterizándose por una creciente dependencia española con respecto a los Estados Unidos, tanto en el campo económico, como en el político-diplomático. La entrada norteamericana en la contienda contribuyó a hacer más palpable esta situación, que se puso claramente de manifiesto durante la entrevista que mantuvieron, en diciembre de 1918, el Jefe del Gobierno español, Conde de Romanones, y el Presidente de los Estados Unidos, Woodrow Wilson.

Since 1898, the relation between Spain and the United States, lacked vigor. But after the outbreak ofWorld War I, the relationship significantly intensified and became a relationship of increased dependencyby Spain with respect to the United States in the economic and in the political-diplomatic areas. Theentrance of the United States in the war, contributed to make this situation more tangible and it becamemore evident during the encounter in December, 1918, between Count Romanones, head of the Spanishgovernment, and Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States.
