Intento de suicidio y otros comportamientos autodestructivos en estudiantes universitarios colombianos

    Objetivo: examinar la relación existente entre las ideaciones suicidas y los intentos de suicidio con los comportamientos temerarios y de negligencia en el autocuidado.

    Metodología: estudio descriptivo realizado con 1586 jóvenes estudiantes entre los 18 y 25 años de 17 Instituciones de Educación Superior Públicas y Privadas de cuatro Departamentos de Colombia. Se aplicó encuesta de preguntas cerradas entre los meses de febrero y octubre de 2012, con el fin de identificar de manera descriptiva algunas relaciones de interés en el estudio. Se realizó un análisis bivariado por cruce de tablas en el programa Epi Info vr. 7, de las variables cualitativas, en el cual se incluyeron los valores de la Prueba Chi cuadrado.

    Hallazgos: se obtuvo RR con su respectivo IC 95%. Existe un riesgo relativo significativo de los estudiantes que manifiestan haber realizado acciones que han puesto en riesgo su vida o que han incurrido en negligencias con respecto al autocuidado, con respecto a la posibilidad de desarrollar ideaciones suicidas e intento de suicidio.

    Conclusión: los comportamientos temerarios y las negligencias en el autocuidado en estudiantes universitarios se pueden convertir en indicadores confiables para la detección temprana y la prevención de comportamientos suicidas.

    Objective: to examine the relationship between suicidal ideas and suicide attempts with the reckless and negligent behavior in self-care.

    Methodology: a descriptive study carried out with 1586 young students between 18 and 25 years old, from 17 public and private higher education institutions in four departments in Colombia. A closed question survey was applied during February and October 2012, in order to identify in a descriptive way some of the relationships in the study. A bivariate analysis was carried out by contrasting data of the qualitative variables using Epi Info vr. 7, which included the values of the Chi Squared Test.

    Findings: a relative risk was obtained with an index reliability of 95%. A meaningful relative risk was found in students who expressed having taken actio(1s that endangered their lives or even having been negligent about their self-care, in regards to the possibility of developing suicidal ideas and attempts.

    Conclusions: the reckless and negligent behavior in self-care of university students can become reliable indicators for the early detection and prevention of suicidal behavior.
