  [The family Buccinidae Rafinesque, 1815 in the Italian Plio-Pleistocene: the genera Aplus De Gregorio, 1884, Engina Gray, 1839 and Gemophos Olsson & Harbinson, 1953 (Gastropoda)]. In the family Buccinidae Rafinesque, 1815 the species of the genus Aplus De Gregorio, 1884, previously assigned by several authors to the genera Pollia Gray in Sowerby, 1834, Cantharus Röding, 1798, Tritonidea Swainson, 1840 and Anna Risso, 1826 were examined. In the Italian Pliocene the following species are present: Aplus nilus De Gregorio, 1884, Aplus ansus De Gregorio, 1884, Aplus aequicostatus (Bellardi, 1877), Aplus plioparvus (Sacco, 1904), Aplus pliounifilosus n. sp. and Aplus pliorecens n. sp., the latter also occurring in the Eraly Pleistocene. In the Late Pleistocene the Recent species Aplus dorbignyi (Payraudeau, 1827) appears, whereas another species of the same genus from the Gelasian of Emilia remains undetermined as Aplus sp., due to the scantiness of material. The genus Engina Gray, 1839 occurs in the Pliocene with only Engina pusilla (Bellardi, 1877), whereas the fossil record of the Recent Mediterranean species Engina leucozona (Philippi, 1843) are rare and all referable to the Late Pleistocene. In the Pleistocene, the genus Gemophos Olsson & Harbison, 1953 occurs with two species, Geomophos viverratus (Kiener, 1834) from the Tyrrhenian stage, and Geomophos advena (Malatesta, 1960) from the Calabrian, the latter only based on the original record.

  Nell'ambito della famiglia Buccinidae Rafinesque, 1815, sono state esaminate le specie del genere Aplus De Gregorio, 1884, in precedenza assegnate da vari autori ai generi Pollia Gray in Sowerby, 1834, Cantharus Röding, 1798, Tritonidea Swainson, 1840 e Anna Risso, 1826. Nel Pliocene italiano sono presenti le seguenti specie: Aplus nilus De Gregorio, 1884, A. ansus De Gregorio, 1884, A. aequicostatus (Bellardi, 1877), A. plioparvus (Sacco, 1904), oltre a due nuove specie, A.

  pliounifilosus n.sp. e A. pliorecens n.sp., quest'ultima presente anche nel Pleistocene inferiore. Nel Pleistocene superiore compare la specie attuale Aplus dorbignyi (Payraudeau, 1827), mentre un taxon presente nel Gelasiano dell'Emilia, resta al momento determinato come Aplus sp. Il genere Engina Gray, 1839 è presente nel Pliocene con una sola specie, Engina pusilla (Bellardi, 1877), mentre sono rare le segnalazioni fossili della specie mediterranea attuale, Engina leucozona (Philippi, 1843), tutte relative al Pleistocene superiore. Nel Pleistocene è presente anche il genere Gemophos Olsson & Harbison, 1953, rappresentato da due specie: Gemophos viverratus (Kiener, 1834) del Tirreniano e Gemophos advena (Malatesta, 1960) del Calabriano, quest'ultima riportata solo sulla base della descrizione originale.
