En el presente estudio identificamos y describimos restos fósiles de tiburones y rayas de la Formación Tonosí, del Eoceno de Panamá. Este trabajo incluye el primer reporte de Odontaspis sp. y †Cretolamna appendiculata para el país, y registros adicionales de Carcharnifomes y Aetobatus sp. Éstos hallazgos representan el reporte de con- drictios más antiguo de Panamá, aportando así al conocimiento de la fauna marina que existió en la región antes del surgimiento del Istmo de Panamá.
In this study we identify and describe fossil remains of sharks and rays from the Eocene Tonosi Formation of Panama. This work includes the first report of Odontaspis sp. and †Cretolamna appendiculata for the country, and additional records of Carcharnifomes and Aetobatus sp. These finds represent the oldest chondrichthyan report from Panama, contributing to the knowledge of the marine fauna that existed before the formation of the Isthmus of Panama.
