La mononeuropatía que afecta al nervio ciático se denomina síndrome del músculo piramidal o piriforme, y está causada habitualmente por el atrapamiento del tronco del nervio ciático por el músculo piramidal (o piriforme), o por otras estructuras locales como la escotadura ciática. El diagnóstico es fundamentalmente clínico, siendo el tratamiento conservador el de elección.

The mononeuropathy that affects the sciatic nerve is called pyramidal syndrome and is usually caused by the entrapment of the sciatic nerve trunk of the pyramidal muscle or other local structures such as the sciatic notch. The diagnosis is mainly clinical, with the treatment of choice being conservative.
