La denominación de neuropatía por compresión se extiende a las alteraciones fisiológicas, funcionales y estructurales de un nervio en concreto ocasionadas por un proceso crónico de compresión, y se localiza en determinadas zonas anatómicas. La mononeuropatía que afecta al nervio femorocutáneo lateral se denomina también meralgia parestésica, y es la segunda mononeuropatía por atrapamiento más frecuente del miembro inferior. Está causada habitualmente por el atrapamiento del nervio femorocutáneo lateral entre el ligamento inguinal y la espina ilíaca anterosuperior por diferentes causas. El diagnóstico es fundamentalmente clínico, siendo el tratamiento conservador el de elección.

The term “compression neuropathy” includes physiological, functional and structural alterations in the nerves caused by a chronic compression process, and they are located in certain areas of the anatomy. The mononeuropathy that affects the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is called meralgia paresthetica and is the second mononeuropathy entrapment most frequent of the inferior member. It is usually caused by entrapment of the nerve between the inguinal ligament and the anterior superior iliac spine, for different reasons. The diagnosis is basically clinical, with the treatment of choice being conservative.
