    Se repasa la introducción del cultivo del almendro en Argentina, su evolución en los últimos años, los problemas de su cultivo, especialmente las heladas, el comportamiento de las variedades y los resultados de los programas de mejora y selección llevados a cabo por distintos Centros Regionales del INTA. Destaca la evolución de los últimos años, debida principalmente a la introducción de variedades europeas de cáscara dura, floración tardía y auto–compatibles, en substitución de las variedades californianas de cáscara blanda, floración temprana o media y auto–incompatibles, destacando el éxito de variedades como ‘Guara’ y ‘Felisia’ del CITA de Aragón, así como los buenos resultados de variedades de introducción más reciente.

    Almond growing in Argentina. The introduction of almond in Argentina, its evolution during the recent years, the problems of almond growing, mainly spring frosts, the performance of the varieties, and the results of the breeding and selection programs by the different Regional Centers of INTA are reviewed. The evolution of the last years is remarkable, mainly due to the introduction of European varieties characterized by hard shell, late bloom and self–compatibility, substituting the soft–shell Californian varieties, of early or medim blooming time and self–incompatible, stressing the success of varieties such as ‘Guara’ and ‘Felisia’ from the CITA of Aragón, as well the good results of varieties more recently introduced.
