The achievement of a first excavations) programmme carried out on Camp de Cesar oppidum allows a general presentation of the site which was occupied from the fifth century B. C. untill the sixth century A.D. The town scheme was discovered after the clearing of several walls enclosing 18 hectares. The monuments of the Roman first century A. D. town point out to a particular political status. Remains of late Antiquity (houses, shops and necropolis) attest a dense occupation of the site.
L'aboutissement d'un premier programme de fouilles sur /'oppidum du Camp de César permet une présentation générale du site qui fut occupé du Ier s. av. J.-C au VIe s. ap. J.-C Le schéma urbain a été globalement appréhendé grâce au dégagement des différentes enceintes qui enclosent 18 hectares. L'agglomération romaine au Ier s. ap. J. -C. présente une parure monumentale importante (rempart, tours, forum, basilique) semblant indiquer un statut politique particulier. Les vestiges de l'Antiquité tardive (habitations, boutiques, nécropole) témoignent d'une occupation encore intense du site à cette époque.
