Resumen de Cuestiones éticas en el paciente crítico: participación de la familia

  Ell paciente crítico presenta afectación grave de su salud con riesgo para su vida, pero potencialmente curable, siendo la familia/vinculados quienes a veces tienen que tomar decisiones éticas, ante la falta de competencia/capacidad del paciente.

  Estudio descriptivo retrospectivo sobre aspectos éticos en relación con el consentimiento informado (CI); en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) de adultos; periodo de estudio: junio 2006 � junio 2007. Variables epidemiológico � clínicas, obtenidas de los documentos de CI; descripción y comparación de medidas y porcentajes.

  Concluimos que la participación familiar más frecuente es: encefalopatía/coma del paciente, ventilación mecánica invasiva, limitación del esfuerzo terapéutico, firma del consentimiento (hijos).

  The patient’s critical state suffers a serious condition of his health which can be life-threatening, although potentially curable, being the family/companions the ones who sometimes have to make some ethical decisions, due to the lack of the patient’s competence/ability.

  Descriptive retrospective study about the ethical aspects in relation to the informed consent (IC); in the adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU); study period: June 2006 – June 2007. Epidemiological – clinical variables, obtained from the documents of the IC; description and comparison of measurements and percentages.

  In conclusion, the encephalopathy/coma of the patient, the invasive mechanic ventilation, the limitation of the therapeutic effort and the signature of the informed consent are the most frequent cases of family participation.
