Evaluación crítica de los trabajos sobre cronología de erupción de la dentición temporal

    Tras analizar los estudios más relevantes acerca de la cronología de erupción de la dentición temporal, se observan dos etapas claramente diferenciadas: En la primera que abarca hasta principios del s. XX, los valores presentados respecto a la cronología de erupción son meras opiniones de observadores. A partir de la segunda mitad del s. XX, los estudios se caracterizan por seguir una metodología explícita en la recogida de datos y en el tratamiento estadístico de los mismos. A la vista de los resultados, parece que la representatividad de las muestras así como su composición cualitativa y cuantitativa, son los factores más importantes para analizar la validez de este tipo de estudios, independientemente del planteamiento seguido en la recogida de datos.

    A review of the most significant studies on the time of eruption of the primary teeth reveals two clearly different stages. In the first one, going from the early works to the begining of the XXth century, the presented values are, in a great extend, personal interpretations of the observers. Since the middle of our century, a more strict and clear methodology both in the collection and statistical management of the data, can be found as a common characteristic of the studies.

    Findings from the majority of investigations indicate that the validity of this kind of research depends more upon sample factors, like qualitative and quantitative composition and their reliability, rather than the data collection design.
