    El artículo explora la relación de Paul Gauguin con el país de su niñez, el Perú. La reflexión se teje en torno a una pregunta central: ¿Cómo conectar la infancia privilegiada de Gauguin en Lima con su posterior identificación como “salvaje del Perú”? La investigación tiene como punto de partida la casona limeña en la cual vivió, para luego analizar, por un lado, las razones por las cuales el artista nunca regresó al Perú, y por otro lado, qué rol cumple su identidad peruana en su universo artístico.

    The article explores Paul Gauguin’s relationship with the country of his  childhood, Peru, attempting to answer a central question: How to connect the privileged experience of Gauguin in Lima with his later identification as “savage of Peru”? The investigation takes as a starting point the mansion he  lived in during his stay in Lima. It analyzes then, on the one hand, the  reasons why the artist never travelled back to Peru, as well as on the other  hand the role of his Peruvian identity in his artistic universe.
