Resumen de Huellas, umbrales y ciudades posibles: el fenómeno cinematográfico en Santiago (1896-1931)

Este trabajo revisa, desde la perspectiva de la historia cultural urbana, la llegada del fenómeno cinematográfico a Santiago a partir de una huella doble. La primera de ellas permite rastrear el impacto del biógrafo como el lugar físico de la proyección, en torno al cual se rearticulan redes urbanas y sociales que prefiguran la integración de la capital en un período “umbral” de su modernización. Por otra parte, la segunda huella urbana considera el impacto representacional de la “ciudad imaginaria” cinematográfica que comenzaron a ver los espectadores santiaguinos en la pantalla y que luego incidirá en el devenir efectivo de la ciudad.

This article reviews, from an urban cultural history perspective, the arrival of the cinematographic phenomenon to Santiago de Chile from a double perspective. The first one allows tracking the cinema’s impact as a physical place of projection, around which urban and social networks -that foreshadow the integration of this capital city in the threshold of its modernization process- are rearticulated. The second one considers the representational impact of the cinematographic “imaginary city” that spectators started noticing in the screen, and would later have a bearing in the actual development of the city.
