Sobre los sin-casa: Caos, enfermedad y suciedad en la Sofía de entreguerras

    El presente artículo explora el problema de los sin-casa en Sofía en diferentes niveles. Por una parte, se presta atención a diversos tipos de alojamiento en la recién fundada capital de Bulgaria a partir de 1878, incluyendo las estrategias de hospedaje de los municipios y las estrategias de apropiación de los migrantes a la ciudad. Durante las décadas de 1920 y 1930 la crisis de vivienda en Sofía comenzó a agravarse cada vez más, y los barrios de personas sin-casa se hicieron más grandes; mientras, los residentes de los llamados “barrios de sin-casa” siguieron siendo llamados “personas sin-casa”. Cómo sucedió esto se investiga en este trabajo. Por otra parte, se intenta esclarecer cómo el problema de los sin-casa fue redefinido “desde abajo”: cómo los excluidos, los “pálidos hijos de los proletarios”, víctimas de las malas condiciones sanitarias de la ciudad, se transformaron en una figura pivotal en la poesía revolucionaria socialista.

    This article aims to explore the “homelessness problem” in Sofia on several levels. On the one hand, it looks into various types of accommodation in the newly founded capital of Bulgaria after 1878, the accommodation strategies of the municipalities and the squatting strategies of the people migrating to Sofia. During the 1920s and the 1930s the housing crisis in Sofia started to evolve, the homeless neighborhoods became even bigger and the residents of these kept on being referred to as “homeless”. How this happened is the question I aim to address. On the other hand, I shall try to find out how the “homelessness problem” was redefined from below: in other words, how the outcast, the “proletarian’s pale son”, a victim of the poor hygienic conditions in the city, became a pivotal figure in the revolutionary socialist poetry.
