Al igual que ocurrió durante otros periodos culturales, el mito medieval del Cid Campeador vuelve a alimentar las páginas de la literatura española contemporánea. A través del análisis de cuatro novelas españolas publicadas a principios del siglo XXI, este trabajo pretende examinar las razones culturales que justifican la reescritura del mito cidiano en la literatura española de la posmodernidad, así como aquellos atributos de la figura de Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar que la convierten en un recurso argumental sumamente atractivo para la ficción histórica contemporánea y para la expresión de la llamada “condición posmoderna”.

Like in other cultural periods, the medieval myth of El Cid returns to the pages of contemporary Spanish literature. Through the analysis of four Spanish novels published in the early twenty-first century, this paper aims to examine the cultural reasons which justify cidian myth rewriting in postmodern literature. It also aims to analyze the attributes of the figure of Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar that make it a very attractive plot for contemporary historical fiction and the expression of the so-called “postmodern condition”.
