    Die Entstehung einer grofien Körperschaft : Die Finanzaufsichtsbehôrde am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die Situation der Finanzaufsichtsbehörde im Rahmen der obersten Verwaltung verändert sich im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert erheblich. Ihrer Bestimmung nach technische Körperschaft, erwirbt sie in der Folge faktisch den Rang eines Staats-organs aufgrund sowohl der vielfältigen Aufträge, die ihren Mitgliedern überantwortet werden, als auch der steigenden Zahl derer wegen, die Führungspositionen innerhalb des Privatsektors innehaben. Die externe wie interne soziale Analyse der Merkmale und Karrieren der Inspektoren belegt, daß jene Veränderung gekoppelt ist an die Entwicklung der Rekrutierung (Schliefiung der Körperschaft, steigender Anteil von Inspektoren aus Kreisen mit hohem kulturellem und/oder sozialem Kapital) zum einen, die Krise der übrigen Körperschaften, deren Ansehen abnimmt, schliefilich die Strategie der Inspektoren selbst zum anderen. Neben den traditionellen Inspektoren mit guter Rente und grofier Rollendistanz erscheinen nun auch Inspektoren mit hohem kulturellem, sozialem und wirtschaftlichem Kapital, die die Körperschaft als Sprungbrett zu den fiihrenden Stellungen im Privatsektor nutzen möchten : Beispiele von Technokraten avant la lettre.

    The Birth of a «Grand Corps». The Inspection des Finances in the late 19th Century. In the late 19th century, the Inspection des Finances acquired a new importance within the French Civil Service. Officially it remained a technical department, but it achieved the status of «grand corps» by virtue of the diversity of the tasks given to its members and the growing number of its members who moved to managerial positions in the private sector. An internal and external social study of the Inspectors' characteristics and careers shows that this change is linked to the changing pattern of recruitment (the closure of the corps, the growing proportion of Inspectors coming from class fractions rich in intellectual and/or social capital), the crisis and falling prestige of the other «grandscorps», and the strategies of the Inspectors themselves. The traditional Inspectors, with their private incomes and role distance, were joined by new, «technocratie» Inspectors, richer in intellectual and social capital than in economie capital, who saw the Inspectorate as a springboard to dominant positions in the private or public sectors.

    Naissance d'un grand corps, l'Inspection des finances à la fin du 19e siècle. La situation de l'Inspection des finances au sein de la haute administration se transforme notablement à la fin du 19e siècle. Corps technique de droit, elle accède au rang de grand corps de fait en raison des multiples missions qu'on confie à ses membres et du nombre croissant de ceux qui occupent des postes dirigeants dans le secteur privé. Une étude sociale interne et externe des caractéristiques et des carrières des inspecteurs indique que ce changement est lié à la fois à l'évolution du recrutement (fermeture du corps, part croissante des inspecteurs originaires des fractions riches en capital intellectuel et/ou social), à la crise des autres grands corps dont le prestige décline et enfin aux stratégies des inspecteurs eux-mêmes. A côté des inspecteurs traditionnels bien rentes et entretenant une grande distance au rôle, apparaissent des inspecteurs plus riches en capital intellectuel et social qu'économique qui cherchent dans l'Inspection un tremplin vers les positions dominantes du secteur public et du secteur privé et sont des technocrates avant la lettre.
