Deux fouilles de sauvegarde pratiquées à Narbonne apportent des témoignages sur les habitations du Haut-Empire dans le centre ville et le quartier nord-est. On a dégagé, en particulier, deux salles pavées à' opus sectile. L'une d'elles renfermait des fragments d'enduits peints grâce auxquels il a été possible de retrouver le schéma décoratif d'une voûte. La maison dont elle faisait partie reposait sur un édifice souterrain pouvant remonter à l'époque augustéenne et a été détruite par un violent incendie à la fin du IIe ou au début du IIIe s.

Two salvage excavations carried out in Narbonne bring testimonies concerning dwellings in the early Empire in the center of the town and the northeast district. Two halls with tiled floors of 'opus sectile' were discovered. One of them contained fragments of painted coatings which made it possible to determine the ornamental pattern of a vault. The house which it is part of was built on a subterranean construction which could date back to the Augustan age and was destroyed by a violent fire in the late 2nd century or in the early 3rd century.
