    Family and Professional Relations in the Building Industry in Provence in the Late Middle Ages - The study of the building industry in Provence helps to gain new insight into the way the family and work were interrelated in the late Middle Ages. The analysis of the juridical and economic nature of the entreprise, of the way it functioned on a daily basis and of craftsmen's careers, suggests that professional relationships were not solely determined by mercantilism and wages. Brought to light is the important role played in the background by the master and head of the working party, in the house and in the builder's yard.

    L'étude de l'industrie du bâtiment en Provence nous permet d'aborder la question des interrelations entre famille et travail à la fin du Moyen Âge. L'analyse de la nature juridique et économique de l'entreprise, de son fonctionnement quotidien et de la carrière des artisans montre que toutes les relations professionnelles n'étaient pas régies par le mercantilisme et le salariat. Elle souligne l'implication, dans l'ombre du maître, du groupe qu'il dirige, à la maison comme sur le chantier.
