    This article of literary basis, seeking dialogue with historical studies, analyzes and interprets references to dramatic texts of the sixteenth Portuguese century make the figure of Turks. It is argued that the rise of Suleiman I to the grain Sultanate Ottoman Turkish Empire in 1520, initiates a significant transformation in the representation of the figure of Turkish, whose route gets from the intimate identification to the figure of the Moor, due to the religious aspect of their raise to the status of the high, noble, complex Turkish character.

    Este estudo de base literária, buscando diálogo com os estudos históricos, analisa e interpreta referências que textos dramáticos do século XVI português fazem à figura de turcos. Defende-se que a ascensão de Solimão I ao grão sultanato do Império Turco-Otomano, em 1520, inicia uma transformação significativa na representação da figura do turco, cujo percurso vai da identificação íntima à figura do mouro, devido ao aspecto religioso de suas configurações, até a elevação do turco ao status de personagem alta, nobre, complexa.
