Die Repräsentation der Bauernschaft. Die Komplexität der Präsentationsarbeit der führenden Landwirtschaftsvertreter entspricht der Vielfalt möglicher Repräsentationsweisen der Bauernschaft. Durch innere Neigung oder Diplomatie dazu geführt, das Band zwischen sich und den Bauern nicht abreifien zu lassen (während die Erfullung ihrer Aufgaben und ihre Verantwortlichkeiten sie tatsächlich immer stärker der Praxis des Metiers entfremdeß, (re)präsentieren die Verantwortlichen der Landwirtschaftsorgane den «Landwirt der Zukunft», d. h. daß sie zugleich versuchen, 'Landwirt' als einen Beruf der Zukunft durchzusetzen wie sich selbst als Zukunft ihres Berufsstandes. Sie stellen sich dar als Experten der Landwirtschaft, denen das Recht zukommt, inmitten der Experten, innerhalb der «führenden Elite» der Nation Platz zu nehmen. Uber die im Zuge ihrer öffentlichen Karriere eintretenden Veränderungen in der Darstellung ihrer Person hinaus, ist zu vermuten, daß in diesem Prozefi weitergehend die Umdeutung der sozial anerkannten Identität der Bauernschaft und folglich ihrer sozialen Realität mitspielt, die immer stärker vom Handeln der anerkannten Landwirtschafts-organisationen abhängt.

The Representation of the Peasantry. The complexity of the task of representing the French peasantry which is carried on by the farmers' leaders matches the diversity of the possible images of the peasantry. By inclination or diplomacy the spokesmen endeavour to remain close to the peasants (although their official functions increasingly distance them from real farming), but they represent the «up and coming» farmers, i. e. they tend simultaneously to present farming as a forward-looking occupation and to present themselves as the vanguard of their occupation. Thus they put themselves forward as experts from the farming world, legitimately occupying a place in the world of experts, among the «ruling elite» of the nation. But beyond the changes they make in their self-presentation in the course of their careers as public figures, we may assume that what is stake is the redefining of the socially recognized identity of the peasantry, and therefore its social reality, which is increasingly dependent on the work of the recognized farmers' organizations.

La représentation de la paysannerie. La complexité du travail de présentation des dirigeants agricoles est à la mesure de la diversité des représentations possibles de la paysannerie. Conduits par inclination ou diplomatie à ne pas se couper des paysans (alors même que l'exercice des responsabilités les éloigne toujours plus de la pratique du métier), les porte-parole agricoles représentent les «agriculteurs d'avenir» c'est-à-dire qu'ils tendent à imposer inséparablement l'agriculture comme une profession d'avenir et eux-mêmes comme l'avenir de leur profession ; ils se posent ainsi en experts du milieu agricole, légitimés à prendre place dans le milieu des experts, parmi 1'«élite dirigeante» nationale. Mais au-delà des modifications apportées à la présentation de leur personnage au cours de leur carrière d'hommes publics, on peut supposer que se trouve en jeu la redéfinition de l'identité socialement reconnue de la paysannerie et donc sa réalité sociale, de plus en plus dépendante de l'action des organisations agricoles reconnues.
