Al mirar atrás sobre los 35 años de desarrollo del PCCMCA, sus éxitos y logros han sido definitivamente una fuente real de satisfacción para mí y yo creo para todos los participantes. El solo hecho que hoy sea más fuerte que nunca, después de 35 años de operación, es en sí mismo un signo altamente significativo de su éxito. El PCCMCA no sólo motivó el desarrollo moderno de la producción agrícola en Centro América y Panamá, sino que se ubica alto, como un modelo operativo exitoso en la revolución agrícola del tercer mundo. Los programas regionales de la zona Andina y Asia suroriental muy pronto se modelaron a partir de éste. Aún más impresionante, éste dio un patrón básico para toda la serie de interacciones colaborativas entre los programas regionales de investigación ampliamente promovidos por los centros internacionales de investigación alrededor del mundo. Esto es algo de lo cual los trabajadores del desarrollo agrícola de Centro América pueden estar orgullosos. De hecho, todos los participantes se pueden sentir doblemente orgullosos, debido a que el desarrollo de este modelo altamente exitoso, no tenía un precedente anterior a ser seguido. Estos se basaron en entusiasmo, sentido común y trabajo arduo. Ellos fueron generosos con sus certificados de reconocimiento para todos aquellos que ayudaron, sin distinción de nacionalidad o afiliación institucional, tanto dentro de la región como fuera de ésta.

As I look back over the 35 years of development of the PCCMCA, its success and accomplishments have definitely been a real source of satisfaction to me and I believe to all participants. The mere fact that it is going stronger than ever after 35 years of operation is in itself a highly significant sign of its success. The PCCMCA not only sparked the modem developments of agricultural production in Central America and Panama, but it also ranks high as one of the successful operational models in the agricultural revolution of the Third World. Regional maize programs in the Andean Zone and Southeast Asia were soon patterned after it. Even more impressive, it provided a basic pattern for a whole series of interacting collaborative regional research programs widely promoted by the International Research Centers around the world. This is something of which the Central American agricultural and development workers can be proud. As a matter of fact, all participants can feel doubly proud because in the development of this highly successful approach they had no precedent to follow. They relied on enthusiasm, common sense and hard work. They were generous with their certificates of recognition for all those who helped, regardless of nationality or institutional affiliations both from within and outside the region.
