  • In the knowledge society, research has been the foundation for generating innovation. This paper discusses about the scope and emphasis of the action research developed in the field of communication, and also presents research trends in Antioquia-Colombia.It is found that the subfields where more investigation is being conducted are: organizational communication, socio cultural studies and educommunication, and the emerging topics of research interest such as: communication and entrepreneurship, marketing communication, audiovisual, communication and family development, as well as communication, technology and development
