Morfología, funciones y sociedad: la ciudad desde el punto de vista plural de la Geografía urbana

    Desde sus orígenes, la geografía urbana se ha presentado como una disciplina plural que ha tratado de articular los aspectos morfológicos, funcionales y sociales de la ciudad dentro de una variedad de enfoques y metodologías. Sin embargo, a partir de los años 1970, la interpretación de la evolución del pensamiento geográfico como una sucesión de paradigmas incompatibles entre sí dio lugar a un abandono de esta visión, plural y abierta, que aun recogían los libros de texto de los años 1970 y 1980. En este artículo intentamos volver a reflexionar sobre la relación entre estos tres conceptos, en la medida que reflejan aspectos sustantivos de la ciudad. Consideramos que la morfología tiene una correspondencia con los fenómenos que muestra la ciudad, lo funcional con el mundo de los mecanismos, y lo social con el mundo de las intenciones.

    From the get-go, urban geography has been presented as a pluralistic discipline that has tried to articulate the morphological, functional and social aspects of the city in a variety of approaches and methodologies. However, since 1970 onwards, the interpretation of the evolution of geographical thought as a sequence of incompatible paradigms led to an abandonment of this vision, plural and open, that was yet alive in the textbooks of urban geography in the decades of 1970 and 1980. In this article we tried again to think about the relationships between these three concepts as reflecting substantive aspects of the city. We consider that morphology has a correspondence with the phenomena showing the city, functions with all kind of mechanisms, and the society with the intentions of individuals and groups.

    Bere hastapenetatik, Hiri Geografia jakintza arlo anitza izan da, hiriaren alde morfologiko, funtzional eta sozialak kontutan hartu nahi izan duena, metodología eta ikuspuntu desberdinak uztartuta. Hala ere, 70ko hamarkadatik pentsamendu geografikoaren bilakaeraren arabera ikuspuntu horiek bateraezinak ziren. Horrela, 70 eta 80ko hamarkadetako testuliburuetan oraindik agertzen zen ikuspegi anitz eta zabal hori bertan behera geratu zen.

    Artikulu honetan hiru kontzeptu hauen arteko harremanaz berriro hausnartu nahi izan dugu, hiriaren arlo garrantzitsuak baitira. Gure ustez, hiriaren morfología eta bertan gertatzen diren fenomenoak erabat lotuta daude; arlo funtzionala mekanismoekin eta arlo soziala pertsonen eta taldeen asmoekin.
