A key part of Yasheya's policy is to consider using both bulk carriers and containers in the logistics chain, an approach named BulkConBulk (BCB). BCB shipping gains cost advantages by using containers from mine to quayside, a bulker for seabourne journeys, before discharging into containers for the quayside to end-customer leg of the journey. With the benefit of suppressing dust production, and facilitate loading and discharge, Yasheya has customised a number of multi-purpose 6 metre containers used for bulk (and general) cargo. Bulk loading can be done via a space offered through hinged doors on roof of the container, while discharge is done via side hatches. For larger volumes, for of example barytes, it may be economic to use big bags to ship the mineral in a dedicated, separate hold, or combined with other minerals or agri-products. Such bags expose small areas of uncovered mineral to the elements, minimising dust.
Denmark's lime producer, Faxe Kalk, uses a Siwertell 5000 S mobile dry-bulk ship unloader to handle calcium oxide at 130 tph. The minerals company is now using the screw-type unloader at the ports of Faxe Ladeplads and Vejle. Mounted on a semitrailer, the Siwertell 5000 S is road mobile and can access vessels of up to 5,000 dwt.
"The equipment can be unfolded and ready for operation just 30-45 minutes after arrival at the unloading site," Jargen Ojeda, Cargotec director for mobile unloaders, said. "It is possible for one person only to unfold or fold-up the unloader on their own."
