El present article té com a objectiu estudiar la importància de la ironia en Carles Soldevila mitjançant l’anàlisi de la novel·la Valentina, publicada l’any 1933. En primer lloc, hom descriu el concepte d’ironia que tenia l’autor i, després, hom passa a comprovar la utilització del recurs en la novel·la esmentada, mitjançant els apartats segu?ents: la ironia del narrador, la ironia de situació, la ironia verbal, la ironia gestual i la ironia hipertextual o paròdia. La ironia del narrador i la ironia verbal hi apareixen com les més decisives: la primera ens permet veure el joc de distanciament irònic del narrador envers els personatges; la segona mostra la gran bateria de recursos retòrics emprada tant pel narrador com pels personatges.Paraules clau: ironia, paròdia, narratologia, història de la novel·la, Carles Soldevila.

This paper aims to study the importance of irony in Carles Soldevila by analysing his novel Valentina, published in 1933. Firstly, the author’s concept of irony is described. Then, we move on to check the use of irony in Valentina by considering: the narrator’s irony, irony of situation, verbal irony, gestural irony and hypertextual irony or parody. The narrator’s irony and verbal irony appear to be the most decisive: the former allows us to see the use of the narrator’s ironic detachment toward the characters; the latter shows the large variety of rhetorical resources used by both the narrator and the characters.Key words: Irony, parody, narratology, history of the novel, Carles Soldevila.
