    Los instrumentos de arco son susceptibles a sufrir el tono del lobo, particularmente el violonchelo debido a ligeras imperfecciones en su construcción. Este interesante fenómeno se genera como resultado de un acoplamiento por medio del puente entre dos sistemas resonantes: la cuerda y el cuerpo. El tono del lobo puede explicarse en términos de osciladores acoplados e impedancia, pero también aplicando el concepto del mínimo de fuerza del arco requerida sobre la cuerda. Después del descubrimiento de Helmholtz [1] del movimiento de una cuerda frotada, las contribuciones de Raman [2] y Schelleng [3] constituyen la base del conocimiento acerca de este fenómeno.

    El presente artículo pretende aproximar al músico de cuerda al conocimiento sobre la acústica de su instrumento por medio de la comprensión del fenómeno del tono del lobo. Para ello se revisan las principales teorías acerca de este fenómeno, y se analizan y discuten los fenómenos y factores implicados con un lenguaje no matemático.

    Bowed string instruments are susceptible to wolf tone, particularly the cello due to slight imperfections in its construction. This interesting phenomenon is generated as a result of coupling through the bridge between two resonant systems: string/body. Wolf tone can be explained in terms of coupled oscillators and impedance, but also applying the concept of minimum bow force needed on the string. After the Helmholtz´s discovery [1] of the motion of a bowed string, the contributions of Raman [2] and Schelleng [3] are the basis of knowledge about this phenomenon.

    This article aims to approach the string players to the knowledge on the acoustics of the instrument by understanding the phenomenon wolf tone. We review the main theories about this phenomenon and analyze the factors involved with a non-mathematical language.
