This article examines the fathers limits in organizing the economy of the instincts. It arguments that the paternal function structures the unconscious as a language, defining only one sex, the phallic, and demonstrates the impossibility of defining The Woman. The subject who is imprisoned by the signifying order is impeded to have access to the object and the woman embodies the suplement that the phallus lacks. This manner of organizing creates an infinite space between the lacking beings and, for this reason, the text follows the logic of compacity developed by Lacan to demonstrate the contingency of the loving encounter. It also justifies why the analyst is supported by the feminine position, adopting the semblance of the object that is lacking to the phallic function.

O artigo examina os limites do Pai em ordenar a economia pulsional. Argumenta que a função paterna estrutura o inconsciente como linguagem, define apenas um sexo, o fálico, e mostra sua impossibilidade em definir A Mulher. O sujeito aprisionado pela ordem significante se torna impedido de acessar o objeto e a mulher encarna o suplemento que falta ao falo. Esse modo de ordenação cria um espaço infinito entre os seres falantes e, por isso, o texto percorre a lógica da compacidade desenvolvida por Lacan para demonstrar a contingência do encontro amoroso. Justifica, ainda, por que o analista se apoia em uma posição feminina, adotando o semblant do objeto faltoso à função fálica.
