    La breve pieza que abre la obra satírica de Persio encamina al lector por el sendero que ha de seguir a la hora interpretar la totalidad. Si,como se acepta, el poeta desde el primer verso provoca a su audiencia y se muestra ambiguo con el objetivo de rebasar los límites de la crítica social, ¿por qué no aceptar la posibilidad de que sugiera también una lectura alternativa de esta pieza que marque asimismo otra del resto de sus poemas?

    The opening choliambic poem by Persius is a signpost which guides the audience throughout the reading of his whole opuscula. From the very first line, the poet uses ambiguity to provoke the audience by taking advance of the generic characteristics of the Roman satire in order to enlarge the bounds of the social criticism. What this paper proposes is an alternative reading of this little piece to suggest the possibility of an alternative reading of the whole.
