Algunas consideraciones diacrónicas sobre las voces castellanas "troj" y "boj"

    Suele aceptarse que el vocablo castellano troj ‘espacio tabicado, departamento’ procede de una forma latinovulgar *TRŎXE, responsable también de diversas variantes afines localizadas en el norte de Aragón. Sin embargo, justamente estas últimas descartan el vocalismo propuesto en el étimo y obligan a una alternativa algo distinta que habrá de estar, asimismo, en la raíz del término castellano. El presente artículo busca, por tanto, acreditar el cambio etimológico citado, así como llamar la atención sobre el paralelismo fonético que la voz boj ‘Buxus sempervirens’ supone respecto de troj, lo que permite, a su vez, albergar ciertas dudas razonables en torno a la opción de que aquella constituya una simple adaptación al sistema fonológico español de un préstamo atribuible a otro romance peninsular (catalán, ribagorzano oriental).

    It is widely accepted that the Castilian word troj (partitioned space, compartment) derives from a Vulgar Latin form *TRŎXE, which is also responsible for various related High Aragonese variants. However, precisely these variants rule out the proposed vocalism in the etymon and a slightly different alternative is required, one that would also have to be in the root of the Castilian term. This article therefore seeks to prove the above etymological change, as well as to draw attention to the phonetic parallel between the term boj (‘Buxus sempervirens’) and troj, which in turn leads to some reasonable doubts surrounding the idea that it constitutes a simple adaptation to the Spanish phonetic system of a loan word attributable to another Peninsular Romance language (Catalan, Aragonese).
