The recent official Italian “Guidelines for public employees” are still not very well known among librarians. This article aims to stimulate a vivid debate throughout those who are related to the library world, at the same time spreading knowledge about guidelines one could stumble upon, as the author believes these guidelines do not comply with the mission of librarians: to create a relationship with all the users of the library, and at the same time to put every effort, even at a personal level, to cultivate that relationship. The author also analyzes the recent bureaucratic guidelines and compare them with those that go back to 1994 and 2001.
