  El Hospital de las Cinco Llagas de Sevilla se creó para atender a enfermos pobres y a causa de la separación de los sexos se formó una enfermería femenina para el cuidado de estas mujeres. Las madres y doncellas de dote trabajaron en la llamada clausura femenina del Hospital de la Sangre durante más de tres siglos. De esta manera, este artículo estudia el trabajo desempeñado por la principal responsable del área femenina del hospital, la madre mayor que se encargaba del mantenimiento de la enfermería femenina del hospital, que funcionaba como si fuese un monasterio en reclusión, completamente separada del resto del hospital y con acceso restringido a los varones fuesen legos o religiosos, con un torno y puerta de entrada al área de clausura femenina.

  The Hospital of the Five Wounds of the city of Seville was instituted to attend the poor patients and due to the separation of sexes a women’s infirmary was created to take care to them. «Mothers» and «daughters» worked in a sort of feminine cloister at the Hospital for more that three centuries. The object of this article is the «Elder Mother», responsable of the women’s area of the hospital, who looked after the infirmary and the feminine quarters, that resembled a cloister, since the access of men, either lay o clergy was barred by a completely separated access.
