    In the Latin source (Venice, Marciana, Zanetti Lat. 399) of a Provençal translation of Universal History (British Library Egerton MS 1500) written in Avignon in 1323 or thereabouts, there exist some references to the Crown of Asturias which were not included in the translation. The author responsible, Paolino of Venice, worked for Pope John XXII and Robert of Anjou. It should come as no surprise that the king lists of Asturias were eliminated. However, the diplomatic context causes structural problems for the author, which are the object of study in this article.
