  • Resumen
    • The article discusses penance, piety and the passion of Christ as the iconographic program of the Franciscan Friary in Ennis, Ireland. It suggests that Franciscan texts could help in the understanding of the Ennis iconography. Topics include the extension of the Ennis friary and the production of images marked a political and religious activity in the area of Mahon O'Brien as Prince of Thomond, the role of O'Brien patrons and their response to a Franciscan type of piety, and the creation of the Ennis images as a penitential exercise pleading for forgiveness.
