    The practice of tourism is wanted by a large portion of the world population. However, a significant portion of individuals cannot afford to benefit from the positive effects of tourism, and these individuals excluded or included precariously to that activity. These are expressed by persons with reduced mobility such as the elderly, people with disabilities, people with low or high stature, obese among others. To better understand the differences between the groups that make up part of the population with reduced mobility and the limiting factors for tourist enjoyment of these social groups, an exploratory research was conducted. A literature analysis of the current legislation on accessibility, analysis of books, articles and technical standards was carried out, seeking to answer the following question: which social groups comprise people with reduced mobility and the main difficulties faced by them for tourist enjoyment in urban spaces? Preliminary results of this research suggest the existence of different social groups with temporary and permanent disabled, besides indicating that cities like Rio de Janeiro have streets and buildings with unsatisfactory degree of accessibility.

    A prática do turismo é almejada por grande parcela da população mundial. No entanto, parte significativa dos indivíduos não tem condição de beneficiar dos efeitos positivos do turismo, estando estes indivíduos excluídos ou incluí- dos precariamente da referida atividade. Estes são expressos pelas pessoas com mobilidade reduzida, tais como pessoas idosas, pessoas com deficiências, pessoas de baixa ou elevada estatura, obesos entre outros. Para melhor compreender as diferenças entre os grupos que compõem a parcela da população com mobilidade reduzida e os fatores limitantes para fruição turística destes grupos sociais, foi realizada uma pesquisa de natureza exploratória, envolvendo levantamento bibliográfico a partir da análise da legislação vigente relativa à acessibilidade, da análise de livros, artigos e normas técnicas, buscando responder a seguinte questão: Quais grupos sociais compõem as pessoas com mobilidade reduzida e quais as principais dificuldades por eles enfrentadas para a fruição turística em espaços urbanos? As conclusões preliminares desta investigação apontam diferentes grupos sociais com mobilidade reduzida temporária e permanente, além de indicar que cidades como o Rio de Janeiro apresentam em suas vias e edificações grau de acessibilidade insatisfatório.
