Power is a constant theme in the theatre of Juan Ruiz de Alarcón. In the various comedias written by this dramatist of New Spain, one can observe the treatment of this theme in relation to the social order existent in Seventeenth-Century Spain. In this work we will explore three facets of power and its exercise: political power, economic power and the abuse of power.
