  • The article explores Russian President Vladimir Putin's intolerance of political and civic activism. Topics discussed include Putin's goal of ensuring that the ruling elite would never again lose power, growing activism in 2010 criticizing habits of government officials including their immunity to traffic laws and Putin abandoning his policy of tolerance after winning a re-election bid in 2012 that started with the arrest of feminist protest group Pussy Riot.
