    El golpe de Estado ocurrido en Chile en 1973 y su consecuente dictadura (1973-1990) derribaron sueños y proyectos de cambio social. Hubo grandes consecuencias tanto para el país como para sus ciudadanos; éstas se produjeron no sólo en el territorio nacional, sino también en el extranjero a través de la masiva salida de chilenos que buscaron refugiarse y asilarse en los diferentes continentes. El objetivo principal del presente artículo es analizar las vivencias de los chilenos y chilenas migrantes que residen en Portugal y que presentan una característica muy específica y que los diferencia del resto de inmigrantes: su condición de exiliados políticos. Bajo esta premisa, mostramos a través de los relatos de vida de estos sujetos y de los significados que atribuyen a esta experiencia de exilio, cómo han ido construyendo y reconstruyendo su identidad, su cultura y sus referentes.

    The Chilean Military coup in 1973 and the following military dictatorship (1973-1990) demolished dreams and projects of social change. As a result, major consequences affected the country and its citizens. These had a repercussion not only on Chilean territory but also overseas due to the massive Chilean migration seeking asylum and refugee status around the world. This article seeks to analyze the experiences reported by Chilean migrants residing in Portugal, who have a very specific feature differentiating them from the rest of the economic immigrants: they are all 'former political refugees'. We will show through the life stories of these Chilean migrants and the significance they attribute to the experience of exile, how they have constructed and reconstructed their identity, their culture and their referents.
