The Spanish banking sector is subject to three forces that will dramatically reshape it in the next 3 to 5 years. On the one hand, the attack on its recurring revenue by monetary policies, by new competitors that break its value chain, and by regulation. The second force is the financial and digital integration in Europe. And in third place appears change in the customer experience required. The consequent transformation, in many cases related to “digital”, is not something banks can choose whether to undertake or not. Instead, their choice of field of play, the vision and weapons to use in terms of IT platform, big data and human teams will determine the evolution of each financial entity. This article aims to provide conceptual support enabling the reader to develop his or her own vision about how to manoeuvre in the Spanish financial industry during the 2016-2020 period.
