• An essay is presented on the challenges of democratization and democracy from the 1970s through the mid 2010s, adapted from the book "Democratic Transitions: Conversations With World Leaders," by the article's authors. An overview of transitions from authoritarianism to democracy, including the role that the political opposition plays in this regard and the relations, is provided.
