En este artículo se expone acerca de las relaciones transfronterizas que se han creado entre la comunidad indígena migrante de Cherán, Michoacán, México y Cobden, Illinois, Estados Unidos, poblado rural, agrícola y migrante, ubicado al sur del estado en donde actualmente viven cientos de Purépechas. En ese poblado anualmente el club de migrantes Cherán ha venido organizando el festival Purépecha, como una manera de mostrar su identidad étnica, organización social y membrecía, buscando tener una mayor presencia en Estados Unidos y Michoacán, desde donde se han “inventado” diferentes prácticas sociales, culturales y simbólicas que involucra a distintos actores que viven en dos contextos diferentes: México y Estados Unidos.

This article sets out on cross-border relations that have been established between the indigenous migrant people of Cheran, Michoacan, Mexico and Cobden, Illinois, United States, rural, migrant, farming village, located south of the state where currently lives hundreds of Purepechas. Annually in this town, the Purepechas migrant club of Cheran has been organizing the Purepecha festival, in a way to show their ethnic, social and organization membership, seeking to have a greater presence in the U.S. and Michoacan, where different social, cultural and symbolic practices have been “invented” involving different actors living in two different contexts: Mexico and the United States.
