Resumen de Características socio-demográficas en los municipios de Michoacán y su relación con la migración

La migración, que está presente en el Estado de Michoacán, se ha venido caracterizando desde 1970, y hasta 2005, de modo diferenciado a lo largo y a lo ancho de la entidad al relacionarlo con indicadores de población. Así, van a existir regiones como al sur de la región Monarca, la región Tierra Caliente, la Infiernillo, el este de la Tepalcatepec y el oeste de la región Costa que, entre 1970 y hasta finales de 1990, tuvieron entre su población niveles altos y muy altos de migración. El orden en los niveles de migración entre los municipios cambió a partir del año 2000, y hasta el 2005, porque ahora los mayores niveles de migración internacional se van a ubicar al norte de Michoacán, entre las regiones Oriente (o Monarca), Cuitzeo, Bajío, Lerma- Chapala, al norte de la Purépecha y, también, sur de la región Costa; estos municipios con alta migración internacional, en el 2005, se caracterizan por tener porcentajes altos de población, así como altas tasas de crecimiento poblacional, por existir un mayor número de mujeres que de hombres y por ubicarse, entre ellas, una de las zonas de habla indígena más importante del Estado (en la región Purhépecha y Pátzcuaro-Zirahuén), y además existe un alto número de centros urbanos entre estas regiones.
