  • Resumen
    • The Ruck-a-Chucky bridge has been designed by T.Y. Lin International and its specialized consultants in the only possible from to satisfy strict requirements in relation to environment protection.

After several preliminary studies, it has been demonstrated that a conventional bridge did not result satisfactory. For this reason, the design solution in "hanging arch" was adpted. This structure is curved in ground plan with curvature radius of 300 m, and suspended by postense cables to control the stress condition on the bridge deck. The curved deck supports the traffic and absorbs the axial compression due to the cables. In this way, ideal stress conditions, with very reduced bending and torsion moments, are achieved.

Two alternative designs of the bridge deck were realized, one of them in steel and the other in concrete. The concrete alternative includes the use of light concrete. In the steel solution corrosion-proof steel is used on the outer elements, to reduce maintenance costs.

The technological aspects have been treated in interdisciplinary form, taking into account the most recent advances in Geotechnics studies, dynamic calculations by computer, test on shaking table and wind tunnel In spite of its new conception, already well-known construction techniques, such as: rock anchoring postensing, assembly by the supporting cables themselves, cantilerer construction, etc. will be used.
