    Se estudia el género Alphitophagus Stephens, 1832 en España y se describe una nueva especie de Cádiz, Alphitophagus carteianus nov. sp. Se cita por primera vez para la Península Ibérica Alphitophagus obtusangulus J. Müller, 1904 y se aportan nuevas citas de las otras dos especies ibero-baleares, Alphitophagus bifasciatus (Say, 1824) y Alphitophagus xaxarsi (Reitter, 1914). Se proporciona una clave para separar las especies paleárticas de Alphitophagus.

    The Spanish species of the genus Alphitophagus Stephens, 1832 are studied.

    A new species, Alphitophagus carteianus sp. nov., is described from the province of Cadiz in southern Spain. Alphitophagus obtusangulus J. Müller, 1904 is recorded for the first time in Spain and new records of the other two iberian-balearic species, Alphitophagus bifasciatus (Say, 1824) and Alphitophagus xaxarsi (Reitter, 1914) are given. A key for the species of the Palaearctic region is provided.
