  Introducción Los síndromes de poliposis gastrointestinal son entidades caracterizadas por la presencia de múltiples pólipos en el tubo digestivo asociados o no a patología extracolónica.

  Clasificación Los distintos síndromes se pueden dividir en función del carácter hereditario o no del mismo y en función de la histología del pólipo, pudiendo ser adenomatoso, hamartomatoso o hiperplásico.

  Cáncer colorrectal Estos pacientes tienen un mayor riesgo de padecer cáncer de colon, suponiendo un 1% del total de todos los cánceres colorrectales y un mayor riesgo de desarrollar cáncer en otras localizaciones.

  Diagnóstico Es por ello esencial el adecuado diagnóstico del síndrome por las implicaciones que va a tener para el paciente y para sus familiares más próximos dado su carácter hereditario.

  Introduction Gastrointestinal polyposis syndromes are conditions characterized by the presence of multiple polyps in association with or without extraintestinal manifestations.

  Classification Polyposis sydromes can be classified in hereditary and non hereditary syndromes and based on its histology in adenomatous, hamartomatous and hyperlastic polyps.

  Colorectal cancer These patients are at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer assuming 1% of all colorectal cancers and increased risk of cancer in other locations.

  Diagnosis Recognition and correct differential diagnosis of the different polyposis syndromes is essential due to the implications it will have for the patient and first degree relatives due to its hereditary nature.
