  • Resumen
    • This article intends to analyse the specification given by our ministry for establishing the strains on doubletrack railway bridges.

This analysis is carried out thanks to the system vibration frequencies.

The method used is that of transfer matrices, less known than the stiffness or flexibility ones, but perfectly adapted to the problem studied here.

The energy method is very easily applied thanks to form functions because of their orthogonality. This method has the problem of its evaluation difficulty and of the lack of accuracy, of second degree integrals and derivatives, respectively.

When we have to deal with a complicated geometry we use the transfer matrix method, for instance. Since the strains are only inertia ones, and as the possible outside strains will act upon the masses, it is advisable to break the general transfer matrix into two matrices: the dot matrix which relates the strains on both sides of each load, and the field matrix which deals with those strains between the ends of each immaterial part.

Later on, a computer program was developed which discretizes the element to be studied into concentrated masses, joined by immaterial bars and which allows us to calculate natural modes by means of the transfer matrix method.

From the point of view of calculating the frequencies of railway bridges, a method for establishing them is clearly shown.
